Breakout Session: Academics and Curriculum
Facilitator: Richard Gelm
Work to further a culture of high academic expectations.
Encourage faculty to consistently remind students of their high expectations.
Discourage "watering down" class requirements to accommodate students' work schedules.
Shift greater responsibility to students which still providing needed support for their success.
Increase writing requirements across curriculum.
Faculty should meet with students for entire class time.
Work to combat grade inflation.
Encourage departments to continually review grading standards within departments and among part-timers.
Encourage faculty to "compare notes"(especially within departments) on goals, assignments and curriculum.
Recommit ourselves to the ethic and professional responsibilities of the academy.
