Faculty Retreat 2000

Breakout Session: Diversity
Facilitator: Dr. Richard Rose
ACTION ITEMS
The following recommendations are being made to meet and sustain the ULV commitment to Community and Diversity as one of its core values. We urge the Faculty Senate, assisted by the Coalition for Diversity, to work with the ULV administration to implement these items.

  1. By using appropriate channels communicate to the faculty an understanding of diversity which is inclusive and comprehensive. Opportunities will be created to share with faculty ways to integrate relevant material into courses where appropriate and discuss the importance of recognizing diversity as an integral part of each academic discipline.
  2. Departments will be required to revisit WASC assessment of diversity and state the ways in which their courses and curriculum addresses local, national and global issues of diversity. They will also indicate the ways in which the issues covered contribute to helping our students become life long learners.
  3. All faculty searches must intentionally seek out ways to increase the applicant pool to include applicants, which will enhance our commitment to excellence through diversity.
  4. Dialogue, dialogue and dialogue which will prevent and correct the inequalities and injustices that occur within our own community.
  5. Add to the Faculty Senate a representative from the Coalition for Diversity.
