Faculty Retreat 2000
Breakout Session:
Image and Culture
Facilitator: Rita Thakur
Issues:
- Who do we want to be?
- What are the consequences of growth?
- How does ULV maintain a culture of closeness between faculty, students, employees and administration given on-campus growth, potential relocation of programs, and growth of SCE programs?
Concerns:
- Are we what we say we are, e.g. small class size, personal attention, etc.
- How do we reconcile financial goals with goals of academic quality?
- (innovative technology, diversity, research, writing, student communications,
- etc.)
- How will the physical limitations of the central campus impact on the
- culture and image of ULV? (potential move of graduate programs, etc.)
Recommendations:
- Develop a process to broaden faculty input into culture and growth
- Develop protocol for release time for mentoring and faculty involvement to
- build and sustain culture and image
- Integrate SCE and adult students into main campus activities there is a there there
