Research Interests

My main field of interest is experimental particle physics. I received my Ph.D. in 1993 from the University of Rochester under the direction of Prof. Thomas Ferbel. My thesis is on the D-Zero Experiment at Fermilab. After receiving my Ph.D. , I was a post-doc on ALEPH at CERN for one year with the Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen, Denmark. While I was teaching at SUNY Geneseo, I worked on CLEO at CESR with the University of Rochester. Now I am back working on D-Zero again with the University of California at Riverside. One of my goals is to get more undergraduate students involved in experimental particle physics research.

In Real Life

I was born in Weymouth, England on October 21, 1964. My family moved to the United States in December 1969. Since then we have lived in western Pennsylvania, Naperville, Illinois, Mt Sinai, New York, and Manchester, Connecticut. I graduated from Earl L. Vandermulen High School in Port Jefferson, NY in 1982. After high school, I went on to earn my B.S. in physics with a minor in chemistry at SUNY Albany in Albany, NY.

My husband Mark W. Johnson and I currently live in La Canada, CA with our two sons Evan and Tristan and our cats Ottis and Guzo. Mark got his Ph.D. in 1996 on the photo-response of superconductors under the direction of Alan Kadin at the University of Rochester Department of Physics. He now works at TRW in Redondo Beach, CA. When not working, we both like to cook almost-vegetarian food and play lots of volleyball.

Mark's sister Debbie and her husband Jim had their first child, Jordan James Spandikow, on April 1, 1997. Here are some photos. Here are some photos of my brother Andrew and his wife Heleen's little girls, Beth and Kathryn Durston.

From 1995-1997 I was an assistant professor of physics at SUNY Geneseo. Here is a photo of myself and three of my students at the 1997 Junior-Senior Dinner.
